Take a deep dive into the Rocky Mountains at Mollie Kathleen Gold Mine to find out more about the fascinating history of Colorado's gold rush days. Discovered by Mollie Kathleen Gortner in 1891, the mine produced gold for decades until 1961, when it was closed and turned into a seasonal tourist attraction. Don your hard hat and start your tour by descending 300 m (1,000 ft) underground. As you follow your miner/guide you'll see real gold veins and historic mining equipment. Finally, you'll get to ride aboard the air-powered tram-air locomotive. Back on the surface, more historic equipment and outbuildings wait to be explored. See Mollie Kathleen Gold Mine and all Cripple Creek has to offer by arranging your trip with our Cripple Creek trip tool.

  • What an amazing experience! Our guide Steven was awesome! He had so much knowledge as a 3rd generation miner. We loved that he demonstrated and explained the mining processes used. We love museums so this was even better. The hour flew by as we learned so much. Make sure you bring a jacket as it is quite cool 1000 feet underground even when it is in the 90s above. If I could give it more than 5 stars I would. This is definitely a must see and well worth your money.
  • Among the most authentic, raw, near original tour I have ever visited. I will remember this place for the rest of my life. Folks are friendly, the tour is superb and informative. Our guide, Patrick, was keen on the historical facts and even operated the equipment for a moment to give perspective on the tour. 1000 foot descent into the mine and it is rich with history and ore. I wish I could have spent more time down in the mine. Bring a jacket! Even in the summer!
